The Magic of Art Therapy
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy uses artistic techniques to enhance mental health and promote well-being. Creative expression has helped many people gain personal insights and develop coping skills. Through drawing, painting, sculpting, and collage, art therapy can not only lower individuals' stress but also treat anxiety, depression, emotional difficulties, and relational problems, as well as a host of other challenges.
Art therapy is flexible and can be adapted to the individual's needs, using a variety of techniques and materials.
Non-directive or directive: The therapist can guide the process or allow for more free-form expression, depending on the needs of the client. Art therapy is about fostering an individual's journey through their inner experience as they create and observe their finished work, rather than about teaching technique or creating a specific finished product. In creating art with an Art Therapist, clients can focus on their own perceptions, imagination, and feelings. As they learn to express their inner world, understanding and healing will follow.
Group Art Therapy: Doing art therapy in a group setting can offer another dimension to healing, including: (1) creating a sense of community and forging connections, (2) encouraging a gratifying, healing atmosphere, and (3) fostering personal and communal empowerment and autonomy
